Delete your Shoddy account

Delete in the app, or request deletion by email.
You do not need to reinstall Shoddy to make a request.

Request account deletion by email

To request deletion of your Shoddy account and associated data, email Woodglue Studios at support@woodglue.studio with the subject Shoddy account deletion request.

  1. Send from the email address registered to your Shoddy account where possible. State that you want to delete your Shoddy account and associated data.
  2. If you cannot use that email address, tell us that you need help verifying ownership. Do not send passwords, verification codes, recovery links, or session tokens.
  3. If you own shared Bill Groups, identify those groups so we can help confirm your choices for transferring ownership. Do not include bill details or financial records in the initial request.

We need to verify account ownership before deletion and confirm a successor for each shared Bill Group you own. Support can help you initiate the request even if you cannot sign in or no longer have the app. The deletion and retention details below also apply to email requests.

Delete from the Android app

  1. Open Shoddy and go to Settings → Account. Sign in to the account you want to delete and connect to the internet.
  2. Select Delete account and review the consequences.
  3. Choose another active Member as the new Owner for each shared Bill Group you own.
  4. Type DELETE and confirm Delete account.

Deletion is permanent. If the app reports that deletion is confirmed but device cleanup is pending, use its cleanup retry option. If the outcome is uncertain after a connection problem, do not assume deletion completed. Contact support; if you can still sign in, the app lets you review and explicitly retry the deletion.

What is deleted

  • Your Shoddy sign-in account and profile.
  • Cloud Bill Groups you own with no other active Members, including their bills and payment history.
  • After confirmed deletion, that account’s cloud cache and pending edits on the device where you performed deletion, subject to completing device cleanup. You lose access to all cloud Bill Groups, and active invitations you created are revoked.

What remains

  • Shared Bill Groups: ownership of groups you own passes to the active Members you select. Groups owned by others also remain. Shared bills and payment history are preserved for the remaining Members.
  • Historical attribution: saved display names and historical membership, activity, and sync records can retain names and account identifiers. Deleting an account does not anonymize every reference to it.
  • Local-only data: local-only Bill Groups and other accounts’ device caches are kept. A small record of your deleted account identifier and cleanup state can remain on the device to complete cleanup and block obsolete sessions.
  • Other copies: deletion does not remotely wipe other devices or exported files. Service-provider backups, operational or security logs, and email records are separate from active app records; no fixed erasure period for those systems is promised here.

For a request about specific retained information, email support@woodglue.studio. See the privacy policy for more detail.

Delete data without deleting your account

Go to Settings → Share & manage bills and choose a Bill Group. Under Danger Zone:

  • Delete list deletes a local-only group from this device, including its bills and history.
  • An Owner can use Delete list to delete a cloud group for all Members.
  • A non-owner can use Leave shared bills to leave a cloud group and remove its cache from this device. Its records remain for other Members.

Archiving a bill keeps its history. Signing out, clearing app storage, or uninstalling Shoddy does not delete your cloud account or cloud data. You can remove the app’s local storage through Android settings; delete any exported backup files separately.
