Common questions
Do I need an account?
No. Local-only Bill Groups work without signing in. An account is needed for cloud backup, sync, and sharing. Signing in alone does not upload local-only groups.
How do I back up or share a Bill Group?
In Settings, open Share & manage bills and select the group. Set your account display name, then choose Back up list to enable cloud backup. The Owner can create invite codes with member permissions. Sharing a local-only group requires confirming cloud backup first. Keep invite codes private.
Are JSON backups the same as cloud backup?
No. JSON import and export are available through Settings → Import / Export. Export saves a selected Bill Group to a file; imports create local-only groups or restore a matching local-only group. Save the file somewhere safe. Imported groups stay local until you explicitly back up or share them. A JSON file cannot replace a backed-up or shared group; you can import it as a separate local copy.
Why am I not getting reminders?
Check that Android allows notifications for Shoddy and that the bill’s reminder settings or the default reminder are enabled. Reminder preferences are specific to each device. Android scheduling, battery settings, and notification settings can affect delivery.
Does Shoddy pay bills or check my bank?
No. Payments happen outside Shoddy. Payment statuses are records you maintain, including any automatic-payment rules you choose. They do not confirm that a bank transaction succeeded.
How do I reset my password?
Use the password reset option in Shoddy’s Account screen. Open the recovery email on the same Android device where you requested it, with Shoddy installed. If a link expires or cannot be used, request a fresh one from the app. Do not forward recovery links to support.
What does archiving a bill do?
It removes the bill from normal active use while keeping its payment history. It does not permanently delete the bill. To delete an entire Bill Group or your account, follow the deletion instructions.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Account → Delete account, or request deletion by email without reinstalling the app. Read what is deleted and what remains before confirming.
